DRASTICALLY improve your target-language listening and pronunciation skills in less than
15 minutes a day with our practical and overwhelm-free courses, or we'll give you your money back!
Dear beginner learners of:
French, Spanish, German, Italian, Russian, or Danish....
..here's why listening can transform your language
Are you struggling to understand spoken language, but feel overwhelmed and lost
when it comes to finding suitable materials to fix the problem?
Either the resources are way too difficult (intermediate through advanced)
leaving you uninterested...
...or the people speak so slowly and use vocabulary that is completely irrelevant for
you. (Do you really need to know 30 different species of fish or plants?)
Have you also noticed that, many courses contain a ton of English, which you can
probably already speak!
This is where Bite Size Languages come in...
"Bite Size Languages"
A new series of courses providing a complete system for listening practice, that
beginners (or false beginners) can effortlessly understand and follow along to.
With 100 lessons of short and easy dialogues, anyone, even the busiest of people
will have time to go through at least one lesson on a daily basis.
Plus, with comprehensive lesson notes and extras anyone can dive in and enhance
their studying with transcripts, translations, vocabulary, and grammar sections.
We've done all the work for you, so you can just sit back and listen to the lessons,
and notice how quick your listening comprehension and language skills improve.
My name is Kris Broholm....
I've been running the Actual Fluency Podcast and
Blog since 2014, where I've interviewed over 150
language learning experts.
Frustrated with the lack of good, easy-to-consume
listening resources for beginners I set out to create
Bite Size Languages to fill the gap.
What people say about Bite Size Languages
"Bite size languages is the course you are looking for if you
want to start learning a language from scratch. Plain and simple."
"Great course with useful sentences. I like the Soundwise
app, it's easy to use on the go and possible to speed up or
slow down the speech rate. And you can still access all the
written info if needed."
“Comprehensible input is the crucial and necessary ingredient for the acquisition of language.”
-Prof. Stephen Krashen, linguist and creator of The Input Hypothesis
According to Krashen, success in language learning comes down to "comprehensible input"
That means foreign language materials that are slightly harder than your current level.
The Bite Size Courses provide exactly this for beginners and false beginners.
How each lesson is structured
Here's what each lesson contains.
Clear, target language audio featuring 2 native speakers (male and female). Conversational in
nature, it features common daily situations.
NOTE: You can find samples for the other languages further down this page. Danish samples coming soon.
Use the line-by-line transcript as a guide when you listen, this will really help you make out the natural pauses and pronunciation in the language compared to how it's written. This will also
help with learning the vocabulary.
Arriver en retard.
Salut. Comment ça va ?
Tu es en retard.
S'il te plaît ne te mets pas en colère contre moi.
Est-ce que tu t'es perdu ?
Oui. Je me suis perdu.
Ça va maintenant ?
Oui, tout va bien.
In this section you'll learn some of the most
important grammar points for the lesson. This is
not mandatory studying, as you'll get a lot of the grammar through context just by listening.
Sample Grammar Notes:
"Il" is a neutral value and is more of an "it" than a "he." "S'il vous plaît" would be the formal form.
"Se perdre" is another exemple of the reflexive form of the verb with "se" (oneself): "je me perds," "tu te perds," "il se perd," etc.
French adjectives have different endings when describing people, depending on the gender. In this case, "perdu" is for a male, whereas for a female it would be "perdue."
There's a useful translation for you to check your comprehension. We've put this at the end of the
lesson because you'll learn better if you try to understand as much as you can first.
Showing up late
Hi. How are you?
Please don't be mad at me.
Did you get lost?
Yes. I got lost.
Are you OK now?
Yes, everything is all right.
You'll also find a direct translation, which reveals
how the grammar works in practice.
Sample Literal Translation:
To-arrive in lateness.
Hi. How it goes?
You are in lateness.
If he to-you pleases not you put not in anger against me.
Is it that you yourself is lost?
Yes. I myself am lost.
It goes now?
Yes, everything goes well.
Communication isn't just about grammar and vocabulary. Each lesson explains common
practices, etiquette, culture, and much more. A
great way to impress native speakers with some additional knowledge tourists won't know!
Cultural Notes Example:
In some cultures, being late is wholly unacceptable, but in France, there's a more open-minded view on late arrivals.
This is especially true in the south of France, where being 15 to 20 minutes late isn't frowned upon.
When you do arrive, you'll be expected to be bringing a small gift, like a bouquet of flowers, a live plant, or chocolates.
100% distraction-free target language immersion...
No overwhelm or burnout. Each lesson dialogue is target-language only to stay immersed!
All lessons are individually downloadable for offline listening and studying (ZIP file included in the premium package.)
Each lesson contains 7 different modules, so you can choose how deep you want to dive into the materials
No subscriptions or renewals. The courses, as well as any updates are yours to keep!
As you listen to the dialogues, the grammar of the languages will make sense to you in context. For additional study we've included comprehensive grammar notes and guides.
Learning a language isn't just learning the language. Each lesson also has concise cultural notes about the culture, etiquette, and customs that the speakers of your target language observe.
I'm very confident that you'll like these courses. If not I'll give you a full refund within 14 days. No questions asked!
"I've worked through the first 10 lessons of Bite Size German. I'm excited to continue and have already (re)learned quite a bit. I studied German years ago and this is an excellent option as a refresher or as a first step in the language."
"Courses are straight to the point. Lessons are interesting and short, so it shouldn't be a problem to maintain consistency in learning. Quality of texts, audio files and everything else is awesome. My warm recommendation!"

The course features Mexican Spanish speakers, so that's the pronunciation you'll be hearing. The vocabulary and grammar is very universal and free from any local variations.
The BSL French course is based on France French. You will have no problem using this French in Quebec either, and you'd be able to understand 95%+ of what the locals say there.
No. The core part of Bite Size Languages are the audio lessons, which require no knowledge of the alphabet. If you have knowledge of the alphabet you will also be able to use the transcripts and accompanying materials. The Russian alphabet is not tricky, so I'd highly encourage anyone to set aside and hour or two to learn it - it will come in handy sooner or later, not just with Bite Size Languages.
Bite Size Languages is a great method for complete beginners to increase listening comprehension, improve pronunciation, and for fine-tuning the ears to the language. You'll also learn hundreds of words of useful vocabulary and phrases which will be useful all the way through the intermediate levels of a language.
Probably not. Bite Size Language Courses are made for beginners. Once you're into the intermediate levels, these courses will probably be too easy for you.
Oh, god no! I don't think my pronunciation would be quite good enough for that in all 5 languages! Instead, each lesson is recorded by a pair of native speakers (male and female). Maybe if I bring out a Bite Size Languages Danish next would you hear my voice on the recordings ;)
